Truth
What a divine word
Truth.
It looks so obvious,
yet remains so vague.
So natural,
yet so circumstantial.
What is truth, actually?
Is truth what I see?
Or only what I was meant to see?
Is it what happened,
or what survived
of what happened?
Perhaps I saw it all
and understood nothing.
Perhaps I saw nothing
and called it everything.
Truth stands before us
with the innocence of daylight,
so obvious
that we forget to question it.
Yet light, too, casts shadows.
And what seems certain
from where I stand
may become something else
from where you do.
So what is truth?
A fact?
A perspective?
A memory?
A story we agreed upon?
What a divine word
Truth.
So pure in sound,
so difficult in meaning.
It looks so obvious,
yet can be so dangerously misleading.
Perhaps the most frightening thing about truth
is not that it can be hidden
but that we can look directly at it
and still never know
whether what we saw
was the truth.
